For students 14 years old and up

$96

Tuesdays, August 8, 15, 22 & 29, 2023

5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Love flowers? Learn how to draw and paint them in watercolor. We’ll break down flowers into basic shapes, paint individual “portraits” of flowers and then zoom out to depict blooming plants as groups, such as a full flowerpot or garden bed. We’ll discuss painting buds, blooms and leaves as well. Please bring your own photos to paint from. It is garden season so you are also welcome to bring cut flowers from your garden or purchased from the store for modeling. Megan will probably bring some flowers from her garden as well depending on what is in bloom.

Watercolor Flowers with Megan Perkins Supply List

Watercolor paper at least 90 lb, cold press, doesn’t need to be bigger than 8 x 10 but 9 x 12 is fine if that’s what you have, sketchbooks are also fine along with paper pads

At least two round brushes-one large, one small, say a 6 and a 12 or even 20, but 3-4 brushes are nice to have. Princeton Snap brushes are recommended as affordable and can be found at Spokane Art supply

Paper towels

Cup for water

Paint set or tube paint. Preferred colors for a basic set are cadmium yellow, cadmium red, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, azo or lemon or aureolin yellow, alizarin crimson, and burnt umber. If you want to get a little more, a sap green or viridian and yellow ochre are nice to have. Permanent rose or quinacridone pink are super helpful if you especially want to paint pink flowers (roses, peonies, lilies, etc).

Don’t forget a palette to mix on! You want one with plenty of space, not one of the tiny plastic “flower” shaped ones.

Pencil and eraser

Some scratch paper to do practice drawings

Photos of flowers or actual flowers. Dried flowers are also acceptable.
