Learn practical color theory-how do you mix colors to warm, cool, dull or brighten your painting? Learn about working your way around the color wheel to make color decisions as well as how to pick a unified color scheme and modify it intuitively on the fly.
Beyond the Colorwheel with Megan Perkins Supply List
Watercolor paper at least 90 lb, cold press, doesn’t need to be bigger than 8 x 10 but 9 x 12 is fine if that’s what you have, sketchbooks are also fine along with paper pads
At least two round brushes-one large, one small, say a 6 and a 12 or even 20, but 3-4 brushes are nice to have. Princeton Snap brushes are recommended as affordable and can be found at Spokane Art supply.
Paper towels
Cup for water
Paint set or tube paint. Preferred colors for a basic set are cadmium yellow, cadmium red, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, azo or lemon or aureolin yellow, alizarin crimson, Quinacridone Siena, Viridian, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Siena, Burnt umber, Permanent Rose or Quinacridone Rose/Pink and burnt umber. Don’t forget a palette to mix on! You want one with plenty of space, not one of the tiny plastic “flower” shaped ones.
Pencil and eraser
Some scratch paper to do practice drawings
Students are asked to print two images, supplied by Megan, and bring them the first day of class. It is okay to bring the images on an iPad, but using your phone is not a good idea because the screen is too small.
